Jeep Build Up! Screaming Chicken

Welcome to Crawler-X.com, my Jeep home page. My goal here is not only to build a rock crawler, but a capable and self-sufficient trail rig. A Jeep that can take you deep into a trail for days on end while at the same time maintaining a street friendly driver. Follow along as I build up my 1982 CJ-7 Jeep Renegade and what I hope will be the ultimate trail rig!

The Anchor

Continuing with the traction bar I need to build an anchor for the control arms to mount too. It will need move in every direction except up and down. This will allow the axle to move freely but at the sametime it will keep the axle from twisting.

So starting off with two Johnny Joints and a straight shackle.

I found that I needed to space the upper joint away from the cross-member,
so I swapped out the straight shackle for a boomerang shackle.

Getting ready to weld in some reinforcement plates.

After a ton of welding, grinding, and shaping here's the end result. This thing is pretty much a solid chunk of steel now.

Checkout the video to see how the traction bar will work...let me know what you think.

Mounting tabs welded to frame.

Mounting tabs welded to skidplate.

Here you can see how it's all coming together.

After looking at the cross-member a while I noticed a possible weak spot.

I notched out and welded in an additional brace.

Now time to lay down some paint. I use Metal Ready to prep the surface of my paint projects.

Bare metal treated with Metal Ready.

Now it's back to watching paint dry...

Stay tuned....more to come soon!
