Next up is the switch panel. I'll be adding gauges and switches, but I'm not down with the idea of cutting and drilling holes in my dash! So I want to fab something up that can go under the dash. Originally I was using sheet metal which didn't work so great. So I turned to aluminum 3" wide flat bar which is about 1/8th inch thick.

I laid out my switches and gauges and came up with this
configuration. I figured I should put the stuff I'd use the
most closest to the driver side.

From left to right, winch control, police siren controls,
dual battery management system, battery level gauge,
then made  room for six switches and lights for night
lights and other accessories.

I bought a conversion kit for my MIG welder so I can
weld aluminum. Then built an aluminum box using the
same material (3" aluminum flat bar).  Will also
have a  detachable face for easy access and install.

Countersunk the screws for a cleaner look.

With all the electronics mounted I can test fit the face
to the box to check for any clearance issues.

Backside...

Had to make some adjustments using the grinder but
now she fits like a glove.

Now gearing up to mount it to the bottom of the dashboard.

It fits good but it might need to move a hair to the right.

Using some flat-bar and round-bar I'll be making a brace to
keep the gauge/switch panel firmly in place.

Bent into shape and welded now.

While the is dash apart one last time I'm changing out
some of the old parts for new ones like this dash insert.
It was looking pretty rough huh?

Insert installed with new dash indicator lamps.

Time to paint... this is the good stuff! Don't believe me?
Check it out for yourself, then you'll be hooked!

Now it's just a matter of watching paint dry. Fun times!

Looking good if I do say so myself.

Wired it while it was still on the bench. Would have
been a pain had I tried to wire it while installing!

Even though I don't have any off-road lights yet I'm pre-
wiring for them. When I do get some lights they will be
plug and play and I won't have to mess with breaking
down the box to run more wires.

Box now mounted under dash.

Running wires through back of box, it was a super tight fit!

Put a fork in this one, she's done and everything is functional.
It actually turned out way better then I thought it would!
